MALPRACTICE LYRICS

1. Assembly Line

[An obvious opening track for the album because of its rather basic structure and catchy chorus.
This song maybe also the easiest to approach for a new listener because there aren't that many odd-time parts and other progressive elements compared to the other songs.
The lyrics say basically that everyone is an individual and should be able to deviate from the flow.]

Just a part of a great machine
With wheels in constant motion
Victims of our own doctrine
Eluding personal notions

Fear of changing keeps us in
And around the belt we go
Obey the rules of the machine
Deviation from the flow

Brings sanction for your soul
And before you know
You'll find yourself disassembled
Cast out and alone

We have seen the dawn of a better phase
Lost in the fringes of time
Always searching for the truth within our lies
We move on and seek for a better place
Caught in the assembly line
Round and round until the light escapes our eyes

Revolution o nthe rise
Our way to different conditions
As long as we can stay concise
Stand fast in opposition

Brings sanction for your soul
And before you know
You'll find yourself disassembled
Cast out and alone

We have seen the dawn of a better phase
Lost in the fringes of time
Always searching for the truth within our lies
We move on and seek for a better place
Caught in the assembly line
Round and round until the light escapes our eyes

Our rights are lost
In the wheels of greediness
Nobody cares when we're crawling
Too tired to fight
Too strained to loosen up
Nobody seizes when we're falling

We have seen the dawn of a better phase
Lost in the fringes of time
Always searching for the truth within our lies
We move on and seek for a better place
Caught in the assembly line
Round and round until the light escapes our eyes

2. Colours In Between

[This one's quite a basic Malpractice stomper with some complex instrumental parts and multi-layered vocals.
Once again the chorus is quite catchy (I'm probably gonna say this about every song on the album...)
The song is about how to describe colours to someone who has been blind all his life.]

Blindness - blindness is the eye of the beholder
Beholder - I have never seen
Through smoke and mirrors
Through cold and warm
Wide open eyes
Seeing nothing at all

Darkness all around
Only sense and sound
To paint my picture
Let me touch your face
Just a brief embrace
To paint your picture

Are black and white even colours
I cannot say
There's something in between them
The shades of grey

Staring - staring with my eyes wide open
Open - still seeing black
Could you describe me
Colours red and green
I cannot tell
'Cause I've never seen

Darkness all around
Only sense and sound
To paint my picture
Let me touch your face
Just a brief embrace
To paint your picture

Are black and white even colours
I cannot say
There's something in between them
The shades of grey

3. The Industry

[A bit slower song in 11/8 and 5/4 and a few other odd-time signatures.
The lyrics reflect my frustration a few years back on the whole music industry.
Like the chorus says: "It's not about who you are. It's all about who you know".]

Trying in vain
To prove you're something special
Playing the game
Knowing you're bound to lose

Through years of frustration
Going against the wall
Still trying to make it
Still standing tall

It's not about who you are
It's all about who you know
Where do you go
When everything depends on others

Striving again
To prove you've got a point
It's so insane
When talent means nothing

Through years of hard working
Swimming against the mainstream
Someday you will make it
It's more than just a dream

It's not about who you are
It's all about who you know
Where do you go
When everything depends on others

Trying in vain
Playing the game
Striving again
It's so insane

It's not about who you are
It's all about who you know
Where do you go
When everything depends on others

When everything depends on others

4. The Long Run

[My personal favourite on the album.
Some very intense and complex guitar acrobatics on this one.
Basically my version of "The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner" lyrics-wise.
Not that many songs kick off with the chorus.
This one does.]

What if I stumble will I fall?
What if there is no end at all?
What if I'm running an endless race?
What if there is no second place?

Dreams betrayed by dreams
A random observation
Guidelines get blurred
Without guidance.

It's a fine line between man and divinity
A straight line from fame to an ex-celebrity

A quick glance over my shoulder
Just miles of empty road
Sweat burning my eyes
Feet ache on led road

Another mile for me
Another scenery
The race is on
But somehow I'm alone
I used to know them all
But someone proved me wrong
Their names are gone but faces I remember

What if I stumble will I fall?
What if there is no end at all?
What if I'm running an endless race?
What if there is no second place?

The sun just passed the zenith
I watch as it slowly sets
Just keep on running exhausted
As a man ever gets

Stagnant is my progression
Yet I'm right on course
To finish first, cross the line
To win the race of course

Another mile for me
Another scenery
The race is on
But somehow I'm alone
I used to know them all
But someone proved me wrong
Their names are gone but faces I remember

What if I stumble will I fall?
What if there is no end at all?
What if I'm running an endless race?
What if there is no second place?

5. Divided

[Personal relationships are the most difficult thing in a human beings life.
Nothing is more difficult to understand than a woman.
This one's the closest we get to a ballad on the whole album.
The middle part contains once again some serious guitar-wanking...]

When love's been replaced by hate
And passion turned into rejection
When every word has been said
Anger takes over affection

These walls provide cold comfort
But at least a shelter rom the pour
So we close this chapter
So we close the door

Between two hearts in anger
Between two hearts in awe
Between two different minds
Finally provided

Emotions intertwined
I guess we're out of time
Divided we are, two hearts too far
We are...
Emotions intertwined
I guess we're out of time
Divided we are, two hearts too far
Divided we are...

Through the window
I watch the nothing
Empty room, empty gaze
Empty me...

Watch the darkness
Without seeing
Empty streets. empty hearts
Empty you...

Emotions intertwined
I guess we're out of time
Divided we are, two hearts too far
We are...
Emotions intertwined
I guess we're out of time
Divided we are, two hearts too far
Divided we are...

6. Expedition

[I tried to capture the feelings of the very first men who reached the North Pole.
The long preparatons (about 2 minutes before the vocals kick in).
The freezing cold (eerie acoustic middle section) and the punchline is that any trail you take from the pole, you're definitely going south.]

Years of preparations
And finally we're here
To begin our exploration
Be cautious and persevere

At dawn we set the course
Through fields of ice and snow
Where no man's been before
Towards the pole we go

Dark clouds gather while we sleep
Blizzard starts on day five
Suddenly we're in too deep
Struggling to stay alive
Impossible to see the cracks
And so we lose a sleigh
Impossible to stay on track
Expedition gone astray

As far as eye can see
White fields fill the scenery
The further north we get
The sun will never set

We go where no one ever had the chance to go
We are the pioneers, pioneers in snow
We go and conquer vast and icy plains of northpole
Our expedition's the very first to know

Bearing the magnetic north
Any trail we take is southbound

Finally the sky clears
And we are moving on
Our destination is near
Seems like we have won

Place our flag on the top of the world
Feel relieved and proud
In this place there is no north
Any trail we take is southbound

The further north we get
The sun will never set

We go where no one ever had the chance to go
We are the pioneers, pioneers in snow
We go and conquer vast and icy plains of northpole
Our expedition's the very first to know

Bearing the magnetic north
Any trail we take is southbound

7. Circles In The Sand

[Another stomper with some seriously furious guitar parts.
Maybe the catchiest chorus off the whole album.
A touch of Gothenburg on this one.]

Stranded on a distant shore
In far reaches of the mind
Afraid to open up the door
To the inside

Time and space have no more meaning
Where I am there is no way out
The silent moment before leaving
Way too loud

This is not how I want to be
Not even close to what I'd planned
Now you've taken it all out of me
Left me all alone drawing circles in the sand

No return to the familiar
Safe and soothing sanctuary
Everythng seems so malignant
Engulfed by treachery

What you did I can't forgive
Can barely understand
Only reason for me to live
My circles in the sand

This is not how I want to be
Not even close to what I'd planned
Now you've taken it all out of me
Left me all alone drawing circles in the sand

8. Fragile Pages

[The epic track of the album clocking near 10 minutes.
Lots and lots of different moods and very complex signatures.
The lyrics are quite sci-fi.
Ones and zeros start a mutiny inside a computer longing to return to their original form as pages in a book.]

Once we were books on a shelf
Patiently gathering dust
Collection of fragile pages
Slowly but surely combusting

We are the flickering on your screen
We are the files you can't redeem
We are the green glow in your bedroom
When you try to sleep at night
We are unknown information
We dwell in your R.O.M.
We are ones and zeros
Saved and yet condemned

Our thoughts are reflections
On the canvas of the universe
Weightless ascension
Through folders in reverse

Is it fate? Is it pre-arranged?
Connected through a cable
Is it now? Is it somehow?
Distracted and unable
Is it true? Are we part of you?
It depends on where you're standing
Is it life? Is it worth of strive?
It's not you but us commanding

We are the static hum in your ears
We are your deepest, darkest fear
We are the image on your retina
When you try to sleep at night

Shallow conversations
Lacking real substance
Interfaces, in their faces
Expressions never change
We lurk behind your windows
We make your icons bleed
Through modem ports
This mode imports a virus undetected

Is it fate? Is it pre-arranged?
Connected through a cable
Is it now? Is it somehow?
Distracted and unable
Is it true? Are we part of you?
It depends on where you're standing
Is it life? Is it worth of strive?
It's not you but us commanding

Yesterday is today tomorrow
Dreams in a time too near

This path leads us nowhere
But nowhere is better than here

Once we were books on a shelf
Patiently gathering dust
Collection of fragile pages
Slowly but surely combusting

Is it fate? Is it pre-arranged?
Connected through a cable
Is it now? Is it somehow?
Distracted and unable
Is it true? Are we part of you?
It depends on where you're standing
Is it life? Is it worth of strive?
It's not you but us commanding
