KLAMM LYRICS

1. Anima

Pollenschwerer Wind durchfahre,
zärtlich Liebender - wie Haare -
das Ährenmeer, das mehrende,
das sprießende und nährende.
Ob der Kosung neigt, erzittert
dies, von milder Gunst umwittert.

[English translation:]

pollen-laden wind
you tender paramour
like the loved one's hair
affectionately stroke this field!
oh sway and shiver upon this caress
you nourishing, flourishing sea of blades
mildly bask in this grace

2. Windsaat

Diene mir - göttlich fügender Sonnenstoß!
Empfange! Feucht gebärender Mutterschoß.

Neigt euch artig, harret duldsam und prall -
verwehrt bleibt noch der hinschenkende Fall.
Der Freischnitt versagt, sadistisch gewetzt.
In kühlem Kalkül das Zabel gesetzt.
Wartet noch einen Schauer, einen Mond.
Weilet eine kleine Dauer… es lohnt!

Ich gebiete dir, Lumen! (Oh Licht!) Un-, doch fassbar gebunden
in Volumen! Fiebrig in Fibern gewunden.

Verloren ward das Maß: und somit überreift...
oder übereifert nach blassem Gold er greift.

Eiserne Kiefer knirschen asketisch.
Wolkenarchitekt, vag', theoretisch.

von Schatten den Himmel. In sein Geschirr gespannt durchwalken Sturmwirbel die Wolken dramatisch;
formieren, uniformieren sich soldatisch.
Saatkrähen taumeln irr und fallen erratisch.
Der Luftraum starrt statisch vor Elektrizität.
Lungenflimmern! Ekstatisch wird die Brust gebläht!

Lichtgeäderte Wolken zucken organisch,
all' durchpulste Wesen fliehen bang und panisch.

So urbar einst, Adamslehm - in Strömen rinnst Du!
Zerfall statt Belebung, Geleit zur letzten Ruh‘!

Grausames Schicksal, so hast Du mich bezwungen!

Mauern, Kerker: Schutt! Zertrümmert der Erbauer.
Neue Form, ein Bild erlöst: Ist dies von Dauer?
Was ist von Dauer?

[English translation:]

[Sowing Wind]

serve me!
heavenly coalescing sunthrust
conceive!
impure, ever-birthing Mother's womb

dutifully bow your golden heads
acquiescently await, accumulate!
your giving fall is still refused
sadistically the blade is whet
cold calculus: the chesspiece is set
wait for some more rain, another moon
hold on for just a little more – it will pay off soon

you are mine, heaven's light!
inconceivable, yet still tangible
as matter
fervently bound into fibers

all moderation is lost
overzealously ripping the pale gold
or leaving it to overripen - destined to rot and mold

iron jaws grit ascetically
building castles in the sky, so theoretical and vague
the stomach in knots, gazing towards the stars
whatever kept you in the here and now vanished
orphaned and disrooted by your own hands

from the zenith down to where earth and sky meet
a shadow is blotting out the blue
stormclouds gather, like tethered to an invisible harness
grouping and forming martially
rooks reel and fall erraticaly
the air is brimming with electricity
Palpitating lungs! Ecstatically the chest billows...

Lightveined clouds pulsate organically
all living creatures flee fearfully
heavy showers fall vehemently from the black agglomeration
fiercly like shots fired
storm's primal force, turning boon into bane
breaking stems, crushing fruit, turning soil
destroy!

what can you save when the storm is upon you?
your self-perception runs like watercolors
nothing shelters
when the storm is upon you
nothing shelters

alas! How arable once – Adam's clay
running in streams
dissolution instead of animation
– a funeral cortege

cruel fate – this is where you defeated me!
struck down by the skies
electric blue
spray of karmic sparks
possessions and hopes lost – deeply buried in the mud

what can you save when the storm is upon you?
ideals flake and crumble
nothing shelters
walls and dungeons turn to rubble
broken is the builder
deliverance of a new symbol, an archetype – can it endure, persist?
what can persist?

3. Vae Victis

Schlachtenmüde prangt ein erstürmter Himmel, zerworren, schattenfarben...
ob sterbendem Feld: Deine Geister müssen verdorren, Dein Fleisch darben!
Was hast Du schier Kraft Deiner Hände dem Boden mühsamst abgerungen...

[English translation:]

war-weary the stormed skies hang in disarray
in shadowy colors above dying fields
your spirits shall wither, your flesh shall starve!
corrupted and scarred the land...
and still - shivering from hunger
pale flanks dangle in bitter thorns -
the edged fences which surround your Eden of yore
what did you arduously wrench from the soil
merely with your bare hands?
soon you will witness
all that you have formed and fostered
afflicted with rust and corruption
how many lines did the chores draw through your face and body
and those of the others?
- like the furrow in the field
how many years did you have to wander it?
everywhere death's pale hands scatter baneful sterile seeds
the lands are bestrewn with bones
how can you overlook this dearth and demise?

4. Ernte

Starre in randlose, zitternde Pupillen:

[English translation:]

[Harvest]

the throat tightly strangled by grief and pain
silenced, broken, old
scarred and callous hands carry grain
moist and cold
a puny scrub into a dusty storage
only halfway full, still halfway empty
depleted am I yet still craving

yesterday a king – see how far he fell
too little to live, too much to die

enfeebled I succumb to dreams

grimly I dig my black fangs
with merciless strength
into the most defenseless deer
on dewy green meadows
inebriation and ecstasy!
I stare into wide trembling eyes
as blood and conscience pour out
I tug on the raw meat
my will be done!

disenchanted I wake abruptly – from those days of yore

hope might be rugged and torn, yet it is not dead
do you not remember?
you can not tap into it's core
by gorging, by crushing the grain
refine it prudently
it will light a fire!
wistest grain! oh little capsule of insight
your sweetness is not revealed to the hasty
your marrow will only be enjoyed
by those willing to struggle with body and mind

liberated – envision this endless expanse!

5. Mahl

Sonst vergesst,
unterliegt ihr, fallt zurück ins Rad. Fels und Bank
sei euch die Freiheit. Eucharistisch sagt ihr Dank...

...Durchs Loslassen heiligt, pflegt ihr und kultiviert.
Flammen in Herz und Hand - entzündet! Triumphiert!
Prismatisch bunt: Spaltung aus Weiß. Quell erschwelle!
Kathartisch erklart der Dunst; Dunkel erhelle!

Wandelt dieses Mahl/Mal - in Fleisch und Blut. Schreibt es fest!
Malt es nicht in behauchte Scheiben! Sonst vergesst,
unterliegt ihr, fallt zurück ins Rad. Fels und Bank
sei euch die Freiheit. Eucharistisch sagt ihr Dank...

[English translation:]

[Feast]

It is not wrong to be hungry, to stay hungry
it is not just bale, it will push you on
this loaf -
true grit, a gnarled form
not unlike my own
in this scantiness
feast on the lesson laid before you

transsubstantiate this feast into flesh and blood
cherish this lesson
do not scribble it into aspirated glass
lest we forget
else you will succumb
and tumble back into the wheel
freedom!
this shall be your cane, your rock
rejoice in this Eucharist!

by letting go you sanctify
nurture and cultivate
with flaming hands and flaming hearts
ignite and triumph!
prismatic colors
split from white
wellspring – rise and swell!
the haze dissolves in catharsis
illuminate the darkness!

cherish this lesson
do not scribble it into aspirated glass
lest we forget
else you will succumb
and tumble back into the wheel
freedom!
this shall be your cane, your rock
rejoice in this Eucharist!

6. Rauch

[English translation:]

[Smoke]

the epiphany flickers, lambent and defiant
yet it expires like a candle's flame
the Word up in smoke and wind
twisted in turbulent spheres – lost! lost!
sorrow resplendent in blackness
the icon is fading bit by bit
the brittle bridge spanning the abyss is creaking
I got lost – returned to the sinister path

7. Zahltag

in schwärzesten Schädelspalten,

meine Substanz, meine Essenz…
besser als poliertes Silber...
so wirft es mich wi(e)der...
und ich falle!

[English translation:]

[Pay Day]

staccato the blood is pulsating through my temples
I inhale the moldy corners
the night chills my body
panic steals my restless sleep
did I gather enough for the winter?

enter and despair!

undetected - moth, bug and worm maledictively kiss
the grain to rot
grain by grain...

pay day!
no solution, absolution
your revenue paid in mockery
thorns adorn your dunce's cap
success turns to failure

you grew exuberantly, not deliberately
parasite, epiphyte
you stole the sun and shattered dreams
ere picking the shards so sharp

gatherer, your towers scraped open the skies
never respected, never honored your duty
concavely the pit is gaping
not even approaching satiation

you grew exuberantly, not deliberately
parasite, epiphyte
you stole the sun and shattered dreams
ere picking the shards so sharp

I walked in vanity, in hubris I spake
did not retain the spirit
now sear and withered
purloined the knowledge
turned and twisted
separated it from its core
by this sentenced to perish
within blackest clefts of my cranium
the abyss in which no ray of sunlight
did ever shine one spot of truth

spewing forth blackest bile
I crawl to the frosty river
long forgotten how lively
how benevolently and wisely it whispered to me
my shadow taints the water
impurity – the crystal nucleus – initiate the freeze!
soon these waters will freeze to the ground
bow your proud head
look and behold:
how hard and motionless
icy, lackluster, amorphous
no reflection, only absorption
this was your failure
your demise – you tread ruthlessly!

but like a grimace by Munch the spectres are forming
my substance, my essence
better than in polished silver
I start to reflect
and thus I fall...
